Fiber Arts Fiesta Workshop Registration 2025


 Ice Dyeing with Maura White
10:30-11:30  Saturday and Sunday at the  Zuest Family Spinners' Cottage Porch
1 hour plus 30 min after ice melts 
$40, includes materials
Enjoy a quick introduction to Ice Dying and walk away with a hand dyed scarf that you will receive as part of your class fee. Maura will lead you in using ice and dye to create a one of a kind scarf. Enjoy your fiber shopping and other events as the ice melts.  You will be notified when the scarf is ready to be collected.


Introduction to the Drop Spindle. 
1-3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday on Make and Take Row
$30, includes a drop spindle and wool roving 
Have you wanted to create your own yarn? Members of the San Diego and Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guilds will lead you through the basic techniques to successfully spin wool with a top whorl spindle. Take your first steps and learn an incredibly relaxing skill  that you can take anywhere or as a first step toward spinning with a wheel.


Needle Felted Trinket Bowls with Barb Thomas and/or Karen Wooton

Join the thousands of fiber art enthusiasts who are addicted to the art of needle felting.  Learn to safely stab your wool into submission to create a small bowl. You will mold your wool around a ball then add decorative elements of your choice giving you the confidence to make additional needle felted objects at home.

 Create a Small Chicken from Crocheted Granny Squares with Michelle Burke
1-3:00 PM Saturday and 10:30 AM-12:30 PM Sunday on Make and Take Row
$40, includes a project kit with all the materials needed to make the chicken
Basic crochet knowledge (starting a chain, single and double crochet) required
Do you need gift ideas that can be crocheted with your remnants? Join Michelle Burke of The Weave and Wander Yarn Shop in Seal Beach, CA to make a small chicken ideal for gift giving. (Everyone needs a pocket support chicken, right?) Michelle will guid you in creating two Granny Squares that will be joined, stuffed and embellished to create your chicken.

Decorative Cast-On and Bind-Off Techniques For Knitting
Saturday only on Make and Take Row
$30, includes materials
Explore interesting and innovative methods to cast-on and bind-off your knitting to create unique and decorative edges. This class will review basic cast-on techniques as well as less common cast-on methods. Learn decorative and embellished cast-on and bind-off techniques including beads, flowers and more! 

 

GET READY TO TRY OUT A NEW SKILL WITH OUR MAKE AND TAKE OPPORTUNITIES

10:00-3:00, Saturday and Sunday

Purchase a $5 ticket for each Make and Take Experience on the day of your visit.

No pre-registration.

Attendees will walk into an available space throughout the day and give their ticket to the facilitator.

Each activity will take approximately one hour to complete and you will leave with a finished product. (Exception: The inkle made bookmark will be mailed to you after the event.) 

Weave a Mug Rug on a Rigid Heddle Loom (1 ticket)
Use an Inkle Loom to Make a Woven Bookmark (1 ticket, bookmark will be mailed to you)
Try Your Hand at Bobbin Lace and store your sample in a Keychain (1 ticket)
Channel Your Inner Viking to Create a Braid with a Lucet (1 ticket)
Join fellow Felt Stompers to felt wool into a large cloth (1 ticket, a piece of the cloth will be mailed to you)
Visit the Paa'ila Basket Weavers and weave a small Cherokee style basket (2 tickets)
See How Cloth Remnants can become an Easy to Sew Bag

Please note: The Fiber Arts Fiesta takes place outdoors. Most of the booths will be set up on a lawn that is uneven in places. We suggest you wear shoes suitable for walking and perhaps plan to wear a hat.

 

AGSEM will be open all weekend, so you can see examples of mechanical ingenuity and crafts associated with the early days of the American farm and rural community; the Blacksmith & Wheelwright Shop, Short Track Railroad exhibit, and the Clock & Watch Museum will be open.
