FIBER ARTS FIESTA CLASSES & SMALL MAKE & TAKE
(Event Admission is Free with Class Pre-registration)
In these 2-3 hour classes, experienced instructors will teach the basic skills required for learning a new craft. A variety of experiences are offered to begin your learning journey in knitting, crocheting, felting (needle & wet), broom and basket making, and spinning wool with a drop spindle. You will also have an opportunity to learn basic spinning wheel care and maintenance from a spinning wheel expert.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Beginning Drop Spindle with Greater Los Angeles Spinners Guild Classroom 1 $40, includes a drop spindle and wool roving Have you wanted to create your own yarn? Members of the Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild will lead you through the basic techniques to successfully spin wool with a top whorl spindle. Take your first steps and learn an incredibly relaxing skill that you can take anywhere or as a first step toward spinning with a wheel.
Needle Felted Animal Over a Dryer Ball with Barb Thomas Zuest Family Spinners' Cottage Dye Workroom $40, includes materials Join the thousands of fiber art enthusiasts who are addicted to the art of needle felting. Learn to safely stab your wool into submission over a dryer ball to create an adorable animal. You will mold your wool around a ball then add decorative elements of your choice giving you the confidence to make additional needle felted objects at home.
Hardicraft Peas in a Pod: Crochet Project Starter Class with Michelle Burke (Weave And Wander) Classroom 2 $40, includes a project kit with all the materials included In this 2.5-hour beginner-friendly session, you’ll get started on the Hardicraft Peas in a Pod kit with guided instruction and supportive hands-on practice. We’ll cover essential skills, walk through how to read the pattern, and help you begin your project with confidence. Because this is a skill-building starter class, you will not complete the project during the session — but you’ll leave with a strong foundation, your work in progress, and clear next steps to finish on your own.
Broom Whisk with AB Navarro (Duomo Gardens) Classroom 1 $40, Materials Included In 2 hours you will make a small, functional broom from natural fibers. Learn about knots, besoms, and broom making culture. Make a turkey wing or hand whisk broom for your garden, vehicle or home.
Knitting Fingerless Gloves with Gina Caudillo Classroom 2 $40, Materials Included Learn the basic knitting skills of casting on, knit/purl stitches, and casting off to create a pair of fingerless gloves. This is a skill-building starter class, you will not complete the project during the session — but you’ll leave with a strong foundation, your work in progress, and clear next steps to finish on your own.
MAKE AND TAKE ACTIVITIES
No Pre-registration - First Come First Serve Join the Palomar Handweavers and Spinners to try out your weaving skills. Guild Members will lead you as you weave one of the offered activities. Each activity lasts 40-60 minutes. Classroom 3 $5/ticket, Materials Included
Bookmark (Inkle Band Loom) 1 Ticket You will learn the basics of weaving on an Inkle Band Loom to create a bookmark. The bookmark will be mailed to you after the Fiesta.
Mug Rug (Rigid Heddle Loom) 1 Ticket Using a rigid heddle loom you will learn to weave and finish a basic cloth to create a mug rug in the colors of your choice.
Lace Key Fob: 1 Ticket Our lace expert will guide you through you in creating a small fish using the Torchon lace Techniques of bobbin lace. Your fish will be secured in a small case to use as a key ring.
Cherokee Style Basket with Weavers from The San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians Classroom 4 $10/2 Tickets Join the Weavers from the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians for an hour of fun as you learn to make a Cherokee Style reed basket. You will leave with a trinket basket. Each basket is unique to the person who weaves it as you channel your own spiritual creativity.
